The Society was formed some 60 years ago as Colchester & District Camera Club, the present name being adopted in 1996. The Society aims to promote and encourage interest in the study and application of photography. This is achieved by inviting top lecturers, both amateur and professional, to present their work and demonstrate techniques, by practical demonstrations, competitions, discussions and encouragement between members.

At least once a year the Society presents an exhibition providing opportunities for members to display their images to a wider audience. Periodic exchange visits are enjoyed with Fotofreunde Wetzlar (Colchesters 'Twin Town' in Germany) and 2007 will see the sixth exchange of images with the Brisbane Camera Group from Australia.

The Society meets on Tuesday at 7-30pm between late September and early May at Christ Church, Christ Church Court, Ireton Road (off Maldon Road), Colchester. New members and guests are always assured of a warm welcome.
