24th June 2006 - A day trip to Canary Wharf and the Dancing City

Ten members met at Colchester's North Station and travelled into London. The first part of the trip was a stroll around the docks near the Tower and Tower Bridge, taking a few photos, followed by "coffee and breakfast" at a cafe. It had started off cloudy in the morning but the weather was improving all the time.

We then took the Docklands train to Canary Wharf.  Between 1pm and 5pm, Dancing City, part of the Greenwich and Docklands Festival, was taking place.  By now the clouds had gone and it became very warm and sunny. We split up and did our own thing, wandering between the various dance locations, dance troupes and bars, hopefully getting many good images.

Some of the dance troupes we watched and photographed were:

Factoria Mascara from Barcelona with "dynamic and sexy" choreography in a tank of water.

Strange Fruit from Australia performing "a ritual of discovery and courtship" on 5 metre high sway poles.

Wired Arial Theatre featuring bungee assisted choreography.

Expressive Feat with aerial gymnastics on suspended ribbons and ropes.

CandoCo Dance Company with a piece called "Miniatora" in amongst a giant orange inflatable.

Thanks to Roy for organising the trip.
